

Overworld exploration is done similarly to The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, though each area/level is self contained, using a static image to show the player where in Cephiro the girls are currently questing. The lead character is selected in real-time by the player, with the other two characters following behind.Įach of the three girls uses a different weapon and magic type, allowing the player to change strategies depending on the situation. Instead of controlling a single character, the player is in control of all three characters at once. Magic Knight Rayearth is an overhead 2D action RPG, similar in mechanics and theme to the Legend of Zelda series. Gameplay The player moves through a burning house. Each Rune-God corresponds to an element that they girls eventually learn to wield: fire for Hikaru, water for Umi, and wind for Fuu.

Not long after arriving, the three girls find themselves on a quest to free Princess Emeraude by releasing the three Rune-Gods, and aided by a strange creature Mokona. Upon arrival, they meet Master Mage Clef, who tells them that they were summoned there as the Legendary Magic Knights to save Cephiro from the High Priest Zagato, who has kidnapped and imprisoned Princess Emeraude. The girls, Hikaru Shidou, Umi Ryuuzaki and Fuu Hououji, attend different schools but find themselves together after being teleported to a strange world named Cephiro. The story follows the trials and tribulations of three Junior-High age girls who are on a field trip to the Tokyo Tower in modern day. The game follows the story arc of the first season of the anime.

The volume ends with Lantis having a flashback stating that the tragedy which caused the Pillar to fall must never be repeated and that he will end the legend of the Magic Knights.Magic Knight Rayearth is based on the popular anime and manga series by CLAMP. Clef explains that anyone can become the pillar and that the one has to be strong of heart and pass a test but they don't know what or where it is. The girls then talk to their potential love interests meanwhile two other countries Fahren and Chizeta are closing in on the castle. It turns out that he is Zagato's brother Lantis and that he recently returned to Cephiro from Autozam when the pillar fell.

The Magic Knights head out and encounter an air battleship from Autozam where they fight it's leader Eagle when suddenly the battle is interrupted by a strange man bearing a striking resemblance to Zagato. The Magic Knights ask to help out and are given back their weapons and armor with slight changes, Clef explains that they won't evolve like before but will change shape when it reacts to the users hearts. He also informs them that Cephiro was protected by a barrier before but it disappeared when Princess Emurade died allowing roads to other countries to open up. Clef explains that since the Pillar disappeared, the world has started to crumble leaving Cephiro open to invasion from other countries and that if they don't replace the pillar then the world will soon disappear. They appear before a crumbling world looking nothing like the Cephiro they once knew, they enter a strange castle and meet their friends once again. The three girls then return to Tokyo tower and begin to recall the world of Cephiro and their wish to return when suddenly a bright light transports them back.

The second Magic Knight Rayearth story arc opens up with the Magic Knights feeling depressed over killing Princess Emeraude, their familes notice this and are naturally worried. Magic Knight Rayearth Volume 4 is the fourth volume in the Magic Knight Rayearth manga series and the first book in season 2.
